Mowing Anyone using an 84" finish mower on a B2920?

I have an L3940 with a 72 inch finishing mower and if the grass is a little too tall or wet even the 39hp starts to stall and I will have to slow way down or sometimes lift it up to move past a bit.

So I can say I wouldn't want an 84 inch on my L3940 it would just be a bit too much mower for the tractor.

I second what art said, try a "72" bet that size would be a nice match for you.

My owners manual for my L2800 specifies largest mower to be 72" and that is a tractor that has more PTO power and more than 1,000 pounds of weight over a B2920. I wouldn't want to go over a 60" with that tractor. Just my opinion.

Thanks guys I appreciate the input! If I end up getting the 84" I'll either tell you how good it is or ask you to buy it. Lol

Mower width is all about saving time. Calculate how much time you will save with an additional 12" pass vs. the potential need to slow down to accommodate the 84" unit.

I'm a busy guy but wouldn't feel that the cost of a larger mower, especially one that has the potential to slow me down, would be a good investment given the relatively small savings in time to mow. Add in potential overload of a tractor and...........

Nice Caribbean sunset for Ohio, by the way!

Both nice sunsets.

I have a B2620 and use the 60" mmm. I would say add 3 HP and 12 inches you'd be about right. Let us know how it all works out.

I don't doubt the b2920 in running the mower. But you will have a heck of a problem lifting the mower. The bxx20's are light in the front end. I used a 5' Woods behind my b2620, and when I had the mower up I had to take my tine turning. If you don't have to travel or turn with the mower lifted, then you should have no problem turning an 84" mower. Or if you have a fel, then you may be ok.:2cents:

I ran a 72" BEFCO finish mower for 5 years behind my B2910 (very similar to your B2920 in PTO horsepower, size, and weight). The tractor handled the weight and size of the deck without trouble (either with the FEL on/off). But, in the Spring or when the grass was lush, I had to run in Low most of the time to keep ground speed down, otherwise it was too easy to load up the engine/hydro. We have a good bit of slope here, and a lot of dense pasture grasses. Later in the season when things were dry, I could run in Med mostly.

Just my $.02, but I got the sense that 72" was about the max my 22 PTO HP could handle consistently without putting excessive pressure on drive-train components. I'm not an engineer, but after all those hours in the seat, feeling and listening to the feedback from the tractor in lush and dry conditions, flat and slope, 72" just felt like it was right on the edge of being too much. Sounds like your topography may be slightly different.

I always felt like I wanted to be mowing faster than that 72"/22 PTO-HP setup would allow for my terrain.

If you do decide to go with 84", I'm sure staying extra diligent on blade sharpening and keeping a clean deck will help with ground speed.

I run an 84" Woods rear discharge finish mower on 36 hp without any hint of a problem. Keeping the blades sharp will greatly reduce your power requirements. You may not be able to pick up the entire unit without some front weight, but the driveline power needs are low. I use the Gator blades for chopping up sticks, leaves and dog toys. I even cut fields with mine by raising up the deck with the gage wheels all the way down.
