Anyone use Rotella T6 Full Synthetic in their LS

An oil company once ran a comparison between 15w-40 and 0w-40 in -40 degrees, starting a truck engine.
They found, it took the the 15w-40 about 90 seconds to reach all the parts needing lubrication.
The 0w-40 was way faster. I can't recall that number.
I see a big difference in my truck when I start her. The thinner oil builds up pressure way faster. I even got low oil pressure warnings with the 15w-40 at cold starts.
Don't think there is a big difference between a 15 litre truck engine and a 2 litre tractor engine.
Everything is just on a smaller scale and running parts of the engine for 90 seconds without lubrication is just scary.
I run 0w-40 all year long in both truck and tractor.
Oil samples come back just fine. Even with 15000 hrs on the truck engine after the rebuild.

I emailed LS and asked about Rotella T6 5W40 ....their reply this oil is acceptable although most LS owners in my location use 10w30....this is what I run in mine...

In December, AAFES had T6 on sale for $19 a gallon and Shell had a $5 rebate for each gallon purchased, up to 6. I bought all 8 gallons they had.
Yesterday, I came home and found 2 fifteen dollar rebate checks in the mail.
I’ve used T6 in my Cummins for a few years, and now my ecodiesel Ram specifies T6, so I run it in both trucks and the tractor and the Subaru engine. So at least I’m set on oil changes for a few months.

Used it in the 5w40 in my JD 4010. I agree with the guy re 15w40 vs. 5w40. Get the 5w40 or 0w40 if you can find it. Use it all year round. Now use 5w30 in all my diesels. Would use 0w30 if I could find it locally. Don't think Rotella makes a xxw30 for diesels. They're still old school.

Rotella is not full synthetic. It's a Group III hydrotreated oil. Yeah, they're allowed to call them synthetic now. Probably use catalytic dewaxing to get the pour point down now, hopefully. Otherwise, have pour depressant present. A full synthetic like M1 would not require a pour depressant.

I say, it is your tractor run what you want but why would you not run 5w? Unless you are in a southern climate I would be running 5w if there is a chance your starting your tractor in the winter; especially if you are in a northern state.

Fuel dilution can drop the viscosity of a motor oil from say, a 15W40 to a 5W20. This collapses critical oil film thicknesses, resulting in premature combustion zone wear (piston, rings and liner) and crankcase bearing wear. Just something to think about...

If dilution creates a problem, you have a problem that any oil can not take care of.

Hate to bust your bubble , all diesel have fuel dilution some worse than other , the nanny state DPF emission system can add to this....extended service or wrong oil can add to the problem ... just something to think about ..personally I run synthetic but change per manufacturers potocol

Will I do not have an LS T6 is the oil that we stock of most everything we change around the place since it is the best all around gas/diesel oil that I have ever used. I change mainly on looks since we do not put a lot of hours.

I did the first oil change on the 1980 3600 Ford that has had Rotella 15W-40 per the owner of the last 32 years. I found 2 gallon jugs of T6 that I bought 27 March 2012 and it still looked like new.

So what is the difference weight wise of a Rotella 5W-40 vs 15W-40 at 180F degrees?

It should be the same. The 5W-40 should pour faster when cold than 15W-40.

Just change your oil at factory recommended schedule
At the cost of T6 and amount of oil used in these tractors just doesn't warrant extended oil changes..

I called LS (would suggest you do the same) T6 full synthetic 5W40 is just fine , the 5w40 will help in cold weather starting, this is why I use it in all my equipment..
