I live a couple of miles from Lake Michigan and we can get dumped on with snow. I started with a walk-behind blower and in the 70's got a Snapper. When it got tired, I looked for a new tractor, lawn mower, snowblower. I almost bought a used JD when I found this deal on the Cub, new and not much more money.
I can remove the bumper and install the lift frame in a few minutes. It takes as much time to find the right wrenches as it does to remove the 2 bolts for the bumper and install the lift with its 6 bolts. I wipe off the hose connecters, one male and one female, and snap them into the tractor connectors. I can't mix them up. I can mow lawn or pick up leaves with the lift attached.
When I need the blower, I remove the mower deck for ground clearence, I drive up to the blower and attach the PTO shaft. The PTO shaft slides for length changes and this gives me room for my hands to opperate the coupler. I drive forward another inch or two aligning the 2 pins with the "V"'s on the lift, raise the lift and the blower, twist the lower snap pins on the lift to engage the holes in the blower and am ready to move snow. This takes more time to write about than to do. The lift has flareds sides so as you move to the blower it is somewhat self aligning. Nice design touch.
The whole unit seems well designed. The 2 stage gets the snow far enough away from the drive I don't get banks I can't throw over. The quality seem good even the paint held up better than I expected. (Road salt. scratches, etc.) It is big and can move a lot of snow. The weight and large rotors keep it from wanting to climb up and over the snow. I have had it happen under the right snow conditions that it freeze up when sitting in the barn. Wet snow would freeze the 2nd stage impeller. Removing the slop after turning off the tractor keeps this from happening. It has never happened while using the blower and I have used the blower to remove slush I didn't want to freeze in the drive. I am happy with the unit.
