Anyone in the Gun Sights of the big Storm?

Still had about four inches left over from the last one.

It is coming down pretty hard now. They say we are in the 20-30 inch band. If it keeps up until 6am Saturday, then the math is about right.

We are stocked, the generators right outside the house, and tubs of water are ready.

Since it is a hard, wet snow, we expect to be without power when the winds kick in.

The weather people say it will be historic for the DC area, sure looks that way so far.

I just went out and measured 14" on the picnic table back deck. It is a wet heavy snow. I had to pull my Ranger out of a snow bank already and had to tow my car in off the road at the top of the drive already with the tractor. They are calling for 12-16" additional tonight.

We are stocked up on fuel food and all the other essentials. I have no idea what to expect tomorrow morning. Should be fun! -Keith

They say 24 inches or so for us, but so far it just keeps coming on very slowly. I dont believe we will really get snowed in.

I'm on the line 8-14 or 14-24" and it just started an hour ago maybe 1/4"

If it stopped now it wouldn't bother me.

Where I live up on the mountain in linden Va, some are told to expect 45". We got 25.5" back in december, and still had a few inches on the ground from tuesday's snow. To get ready for it, I made sure I had 10 gallons of fuel for the BX, and 15 gallons for the genny. I had to put the chains on the truck to get home, but I expect to be able to make it to work tuesday or wednesday. I've been pushing snow since 3:00 with one break. I'm gonna sleep till ten and go out and do it again. My goal is to push 3 hrs, and sleep 2. Time for a nap. Good luck y'all.

Snow early morning, then rain the rest of the day.

Have to say in the 10 years living in North Carolina, this is by far the worst winter I've seen so far (three good snowfalls, the first one being cold enough that snow stayed on the ground for weeks).

Still a walk in the park compared to Watertown:D

It's supposed to go on till 8pm Saturday, possibly all time record breaker for some areas. The weathermen are calling it a meteorological bomb for the way it comes down in a super dump.

I would be very concerned about roofs collapsing especially if it's as wet as you guys are saying, those roofs have never been put to that kind of acid test before. older compromised ones could possibly give in and power failures are almost certain if it turns out as bad as they say.

Not saying I'm jealous, but you guys are getting our snow, due to this polar vortex keeping the storms from moving northward and out of New England. We have been having the wimpiest winter in years, with these little 1-2 inch flurry "storms". All I can do is watch The Weather Channel to get a taste of a good old fashioned Nor-Easter.

Hunker down, make a fire in the fireplace, try and enjoy it, it can be beautiful. Well that's as long as your roof don't cave in  maybe before you relax to much, pull a little snow off your roofs, especially if you have lower pitched roofs where drifting snow may build up even deeper and heavier.

Well good luck and stay safe :)

Keep us posted!

JB.

We're in southern York County. This is a classic Nor'Easter coming through.
At 2030 (Friday), we have about 4"-5" on the back porch. We should see the most accumulation between 2300 and 0600 tonight and tomorrow morning.
As far as preparation...got 5 gallons of diesel, plus a full tank on the 790. The loader is installed and the ballast box is attached.
Plenty of food, tobacco (roll our own plus one great quality cigar!) and the portable lights are charging now (just in case).
AND!!!!!!!!!!! I have a case of Yuengling Black and Tan chilling nicely.

No place we have to go, so it should be a nice day of plowing, relaxing and beer drinking on Saturday.
