I went from farming 3 acres of produce as a hobby and selling at the farmers market on weekend to turning bowls on a wood lathe and selling those at galleries and craft shows. The tractor is mainly used for moving logs now with the occasional brush hogging, landscaping, and small garden.
Here are some samples of my work. Anyone else do wood turning?

Oh wow, that is impressive! I can't say I do much in the way of woodworking, but I can say that your work is beautiful.

Yes, I do captive ring goblets, but don't have any pictures handy. I've got a few turning projects lined up but other household activities come first so it will be awhile before I get back to them.

BTW, are you a member of the American Association of Woodturners?

Not currently a member of AAW but hoping to join soon. I am submitting work to Souther Highlands Craft Guild in the next couple of months to see if I can get accepted. That will give me access to 4 art galleries in the Asheville NC area.
Love to see some pictures of your work.

I haven’t tried segmented turning, those look great!
The nice thing about segmented is that all the pieces can be arranged so that the lathe tool is cutting with the grain rather than across. Cuts like butter with no cross grain tearout!

I will give it a try soon. I’m a little impatient when it comes to gluing up all those pieces😂.
I have a friend who does segmented turnings in Alabama.

I did a couple segmented pieces a few years ago. I’ve been wanting to glue up a large diameter segmented bowl but I’ve not gotten around to it.

I built this lathe about 30 years ago for turning out pieces up to 25" diameter including the bowls seen above. It is powered with a DC motor and electronic drive for RPM and reversing. The concrete base adds a lot of stability and the lathe column is hinged so it can pivot 90 degrees onto its back leaving the faceplate horizontal.

Very nice! I have a friend who built one very similar. I’ll try to get a picture of it.
