It'll work! You might be clutching quite a bit.

On big stumps it takes a LOT of passes to finally get the whole thing done, so you'll have to find a rhythm : 3-pt up, back up over the stump, pick your line, drop pto, forward to grind, repeat.

Tried mounting mine today. Cannot get the PTO shaft attached where the slip clutch side marries to the grinder. There are two bolts in the hub and it looks like it clamps the hub over the spline shaft. I assume the bolts slip by the ring milled into the PTO fitting to keep the unit from disengaging. Stupid design but can’t find a slip clutch unit with a button to lock the shaft.

Very frustrating. Didn’t want to start filing stuff down and voiding the warranty.

Call in to Tech support to see if they want me to file to fit or if they send a replacement.

Unit seems well built otherwise

I hate PTO anything.

Don, no offense at all but if you read the thread a little closer you’d learn that some if not most of us have to pry open the slip-clutch end of the shaft juuuust a touch to get it to slide onto the grinder. A chisel, prybar, etc. I also filed the very ends of each spline/groove a touch to get the invisible burrs off. And of course take those bolts out completely then reinstall after slipping it on.

Don’t think about customer service or warranty at all, just give a quick pry and file to each side and mate them up. Nothing too coarse needed, i used a smooth file and it quickly got things going.

No offense taken. I will try prying it open. I saw it was slit but was worried I might crack the fitting.

The tractor side goes on easily

Thank you for replying so quickly!!

I made a small metal wedge in the past and drove it in to spread it a bit. Put it on, pop wedge back out and your good to go.

I used two kinda flattish cold chisels and it popped right on after I drove them in a bit.

This morning I tried putting the tractor side of the PTO shaft on the grinder and it will not fit. This is after filing down each spline on the grinder to clean them up.

I pounded a chisel into the gap on both sides but am reluctant to open it up any more because…..

The tractor side of the PTO shaft fits on the tractor so the grinder spline shaft is the problem.

Tech support so far has been useless. This morning they asked for pictures. Pictures of what? Just wasting my time.

I hope my local dealer can get the clutch side attached.

is this your first time using it?

are you talking attaching on the grinder side? if so its well documented, you have to spread the wings on the pinch bolt section, and if you have air hammers, you have to walk it on.

not sure what tech support is suppose to do for you here

Don, since the PTO shaft and slip-clutch stay with the grinder, you only have to get it on once. As mentioned, you spread it out just a wee bit and it will go right on. I pushed mine on by hand after opening it up just a little bit. I don't think there are any warranty implications from a minor adjustment on the shaft collar to make it fit. Plus as you are learning right now, trying to make a future warranty claim probably wouldn't be very fun or productive anyway.
