I was thinking of getting a new LED flashlight. I knew Maglite made them and decided to see what they had. I went to their site and saw they had upgrade modules for the standard bulb lights. I have a 2 D-Cell Maglite. I didn't know they made upgrade modules. Since I already have the Maglite, I was wondering how good or bad the Maglite LED flashlights are?

So far I have not seen very many problems with any LED light. They are super bright and they don't burn out like regular bulbs. If you can get an upgrade kit then go for it. Currently, the only Maglite branded LED light I have is the single LED 2AA light. It has been with me for a few years and gets bounced around a lot as I take it with me every day I am out hunting turkey or deer.

I haven't bought a new MagLite in years, but I have bought the LED upgrades for the three I own. I love the LED bulbs. Only one problem I have noticed. The LED uses so little juice, you will end up leaving the batteries in the flashlight too long and they will start to leak. I ruined one 2 cell Mag that way and have since taken to replacing batteries on a schedule other than just when the light dims.

Thanks guys. I'd like to get an LED light to get rid of the old bulb light. I like those other lights, but I might just go for the upgrade since I already have the Maglite.

I'm quite satisfied with the drop-in replacement Maglite brand LED bulb. Battery life is significantly better than the old incandescent bulb, and I think the brightness is a bit better also, in addition to having a bit tighter focus on the beam possible.

I use a 2-D cell LED Maglite at work. The only reason I don't like it is that it makes all of my standard ones at home look crappy! Well worth the extra money.

You can find LED replacement lamps for typ flashlights at many places that have a decent selection of flashlights. Typ cost is $10. Quite bright but not the qty of light as from convientional lamp. Have one in my Maglite, works nice but with such a small current draw, batteries will likely never need replacing do to use but self discharge is a factor and if you get out of the habit of checking batteries, you may find yourself with dead batteries just when the you ne light the most.

For a better price, check out SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home and look down close to the bottom of the page for LED flashlight lamps.

The discussions on this message board CandlePowerForums will answer almost any kind of flashlight question you might think of. :D

A good source of lights if you want to go internet order is the Fenix Store https://www.fenix-store.com/index.php?cPath=22

Look for light with CREE or Rebel LED emitters. I've purchased several lights from the store and have gotten good products. Yes they are built to a price point, not too low a price point, but good lights.

Hmmm,

I have the opposite problem. I have a four cell D maglite.

It loves batteries.

I love it, nice and bright. Heavy too. Can be used as a last resort weapon for personal defence.

I have a 3d LED maglite and I love it. Got it last christmas and I'm still on the original batteries I think. Super bright. Had it do over I'd get a 2d light and save some weight although the bigger light is a better club. :)

I worked late night maintenance for years.. My success demanded a flashlight on my belt always. I am only speaking to small 1xAA or 2xAA type lights. These flashlights were used every work day in any weather.

The super cheap ones will fail at the switch or spring contacts to the batteries. The Maglight LED started overheating or something as it would blink like a loose wire. I decided it must be a failure in the bulb circuit as everything else looked fine. I paid good money for it and it still stands here to remind me not to waste money on that again.

My best flashlights were mid priced no name LEDs that I would not cry about loosing. The LED will make the batteries last longer but you sometimes have to get used to the color of the light.

Not to slight Maglight, I have several of the D size normal bulb beasts and love them including two rechargables.

My firegear has a department issued LED light that clips to my coat. I don't recall the brand but it is red/orange and works quite well. Too big for the belt but perfect for the fire gear.
