Anyone get stopped leaving stores?

The bank I deal with for credit card purchases had a picture ID put right on the front of the card. The good news or bad news depending on how you look at is is the wife can't use my card.

There was a rash of unpaid gas drive offs around here but it was proven later that the customers actually did pay. I always take the receipt now, just in case that bug hits the machines again, so I will not have to be detained until I reach my credit card company.
Sheetz stores in my area used to very bad about reporting gas drive offs to the police when people used credit/debit cards at the pump. A friend of mine was pulled over a few times, different stores each time. The last time it happened, the cop asked him to come back to the store with him and he would take care of the problem. My friend complied, showed his receipt to the clerk and manager. The cop informed the manager of the store that he was to give my friend a free gas card or he would be arrested for filing a false police report. Even though it is an inconvenience and defeats the purpose of paying at the pump for me, if the pump is out of paper, I always go inside to get my receipt.

Wonder how much gas was stolen in the days of full service gas stations?

Sounds like the cop is bored with his job.
Just by the cop telling the employee had to give a cash card he could be thought of using an extortion tactic???but perhaps he suggested that to charm the customer.?

I'm sure by all appearances it was legit. He should have dealt with and been done with it. So often they loose touch with just what they are hired to do.And I would hope if he did charge the clerk that in court they would find that the clerk acted in good faith.
Obviously.
I don't really understand, because around my parts you have to swipe the card to pay and it only allows you to pump after the credit is approved. If you pay any other way you have to go inside.

Check with Visa, or other card companies; putting "check ID" on "signature" line is wrong. Cashiers are to check signature line on card to signature you just made on receipt. A card that has no signature is invalid, according to terms of card holder. That is why it always says " sign card before using"

I guess the only time i have ever been stopped leaving a store or
(CHASED TO MY TRUCK) was when i went to gander mountain to buy a boat motor. I called the day before to make sure they had it in and they said yes, but please let us know when you plan on picking it up so we can put oil in it, the propeller on and check out other things and start it, i asked chad is tomorrow alright, he said yes.

This was just last spring, so i drove 73 miles one way just to get there, i went to marine department and asked for chad and they told me that he has the day off, so steve asked me what was you needing.

I told him i was there to pick up a boat motor, and he said chad did not say anything about it, and you would need to come back maybe in the morning because its not ready, so after telling him about what
chad told me and the miles i drove then he said it would take about an hour to get it ready.

So since there is so much there to look at me and my wife just looked around. So i picked up a new fish finder and a couple other things. After waiting over a hour and half on the motor they finally got it ready, they showed me everything about it and i had to fill out a form about the warranty. I had to pay for the motor back there in the marine department, and they said i could pay for the fish finder and our other items back there also, so i did.

Steve told me to bring my truck and trailer around to the back of the store to get it loaded, (HE ASKED ME IF I COULD HURRY)

So we had to go back out the front of the store and when we went through the door the alarm went off but didn't pay much about it because (I WAS TOLD TO HURRY) and then at my truck i heard someone SHOUTING SIR SIR, and i said what, we was told to come back in the store since the alarm went off:eek: They checked our bags and could not figure it out, they walked us back through the door, the alarm went off.

Finally after about 15 minutes of talking they asked me where did you check out, i said in the marine department, so they scanned the fish finder and the security tag had not deleted and that was what set it off. So after i go around back there is the motor, still on a motor
stand and not it the shipping crate, I told them put it back in the crate so it won't get damaged on the trailer, so off came the propeller
to get it back in the crate.

So after loading i went back around the front to go inside, sat down
with the manager to tell him about the crate, and what a bad day this
has become. He said i am very sorry wait here just a minute, well after about 10 minutes he comes back and hands me a $100 dollar gift card:D and said i am very sorry, i asked him could i just please get out of here without wainting anymore and without the alarm going off, he said have a nice day. i looked at him with a :( face.

Next time an alarm goes off i will just go to the manager to see what
kind of gift card they offer.:D

You're right, of course, but the credit card companies just did not keep up with the changes in technology and society, so it's really silly now. You use the card online and at gas pumps, maybe ATMs, etc. with no human to check the signature and nothing to sign anyway. Then the electronic "pads" you sign will accept anything you scribble, whether it's actually a signature or not. And if they expect what I scribble on one of those pads, or even on a scrap of paper they use for a receipt is going to look like a signature I do sitting at my desk at home, they're badly mistaken. And finally, the so-called handwriting experts are just guessing and make mistakes; no way a clerk is going to be able to tell whether two signatures are the same or not.

I never signed the back of any of my credit cards, or wrote check ID, never had a problem or denied use, I thought by signing them it would make it easier for some one to copy your signature, just checked my wallet and I see now my 2 major cards are signed, which surprised me cause like I said I never use to sign any card in the past, I think some one told me it's safer to sign them now? My Home depot and Lowes cards as well as a few gas cards are still not signed.

As far as those scribble pads go, I just make a line or an X or just a dot, but the last time at Radio Shack the pad rejected my scribble and the girl said they're getting more sensitive and require more recognizable characters, she said that since they got the new pads a month ago they have been rejecting many customers "marks"

You disgruntled guys are getting profiled. As I got older, I found that I get less and less 'special attention' from the store associates. One time a long ago, I had a clerk follow me all over a book store to check if I was going to shoplift. I amused myself by going from one side of the store to the other. Needless to say I didn't buy anything and I'm happy to say that the store went out of business a few months later.
I'll bet if we surveyed the guys that had trouble in this thread, they were a little disreputable looking when they shopped.
This is somewhat similar to what women who look like Mrs. PoorHousewife go through when they shop in a classy joint. If they come back all dolled up, the salespeople fall all over themselves to wait on them. Do you remember what happened to Julia Roberts in the movie "Pretty Woman'?
