Anyone ever change or reverse the knives on a Wallenstein chipper? Was it easy or difficult? I have a BX-60 and would like to reverse the knives.

I need to inspect and maybe flip the knives on my BX-42 soon, but am still running on the original edges after 8-9 years. I have heard it's not very complicated at all. Hopefully none of the bolts are stuck, as that would complicate it.

I think spacing could be an issue, meaning the distance between knife edge and cutting gap..

Not that difficult.
make sure you have proper sized tools
i think they are metric.

I have a Wallensten BX62S. A year or so ago I removed one knife blade. Just to see how it went. It was unbelievably easy. If your blade/anvil clearance is correct - it will be that same way when you rotate the knives or simply reinstall the blades without rotating.

Get them sharpened - you should check the knife/anvil clearances. The anvil may need adjustment.

An added note - any time you remove blades - be certain the blade and blade pocket are absolutely clean. No rust, dirt, smut, etc, etc. This will ensure a correct alignment.

I used to have a BX62. I rotated and sharpened knifes a couple of times. Removing the knives is pretty simple as oosik said. Don't forget to rotate or sharpen the anvil - you have four edges on that. I used a worn hacksaw blade as a gage to set the knife/anvil clearance. Check anvil clearance on all four knifes as there is most likely some height variation and set the clearance using the tallest knife.
