Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

FWIW...Feeders that hang near cover from above will usually see more activity than feeders hung out in the open...

Something I found interesting a couple of years ago...because of some storm damage I had to replace a few porch rafters...there had been a feeder hanging on one of the tails of the broken rafters so I moved it about 12' to an undamaged tail...
...The hummers kept flying to where the feeder had been hanging instead of going directly to the moved feeder... this went on for over a week until they finally found where the feeder had been moved to...so they do not always rely on color but seem to use their guidance instinct or whatever...

The bird will approach the feeder,, then land like a "wheels up" B52 bomber,,,

After feeding for up to 15 minutes,, the bird will roll off the feeder,, and fly away,,,:thumbsup:

Sounds like that is probably the case. I know they cannot walk in general so it must be its feet more than legs.

Our Orioles that were gobbling down 1/2 an orange a day just suddenly left after one month to the day of their arrival. They were a nice bright chirpy bird and we miss them.

Very nice. We have a stainless cable arrangement as a railing to our deck and the hummers sit on the cables a lot. I should get a decent camera to take pictures, the phone just does not cut it.

I think I had the normal number - eight or ten. Went thru 15 pounds of sugar. Only two adults remain now. All the rest have gone - ???

I actually took a telephoto photo through the window and I didn't think you could do that.
