Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

I still have the four that have been around for a good part of September. Being that the number has remained stable, I would think that they may be some of this year's young rather than southbound migrants. I need to keep the binoculars close by to look for possible leg bandings.

Those must be tiny leg bands. :scratchchin:

Saw one at a fuschia plant today so I reloaded the feeders for any still migrating down from Alaska? and Canada.

The last one I saw here was 9/25. Just took the feeder down today, cleaned it and put it into storage until next April.

Hummers around here have suddenly vanished. Last week we had probably 10 - 20 at a time swarming the 5 feeders. This week, one or two at the most. I suspect those 1 or 2 were stragglers, with the masses well on their way to find warmer weather.

I'm looking forward to seeing them return again. In other words, I hate winter.

Ours dried up and then when we thought they were all gone, another 75 or more showed up in small batches for the next couple of weeks.

Feeders came down today, cleaned and ready for Spring.

I saw one today, his tank must have been empty. He sat there (I have type with a roost) and filled up for a LONG time. Hopefully he got enough of a belly full to get half way to Oregon and find another feeder.

Diggin it, don't know where you are located? Here in the PNW... we still have hummingbirds visiting our feeder. In fact, I made some more sugar water today as they continue to empty it. Not as many now but still a few... but this has been another great year for them. Keep thinking we need a second feeder because of the wars around the one. Ours routinely sit still and feed for a minute rather than hover. Quite enjoyable.

They seem to know me and I sit on my deck 5ft away and it doesn't spook them. Often they come close to me... so close that one tried to land in my hair this summer. I sort of panicked and wacked him away.
