Treated 2x6s give you the best bang for your dollar, but they have to be able to stay dry. Air flow is the most important factor. When it rains, water needs to evaporate under the deck. Air moving under the deck does this very well. An enclosed deck holds moisture under a deck, and even creates moisture with condensation.

I wish we had talked 5 years ago, i agree with everything you said about the spacing and everything. i used actual clamps to tighten the boards. the deck when new would almost hold water. 3 years later and 1 inch gaps in places. i replaced some boards 3 years later, dry in the barn, still shrunk. moisture level was 13%. made me never want to build a deck again
