I may have already posted part of this on the thread, but recent news made me think about it all when this thread popped up on my feed again.
18 years ago I took my then g/f to Vegas for memorial day weekend and when she burned through all her money, and I was up about $500 on slots, I gave it to her so she would have a good wrap up of the trip.
Well in the 3 hours we had left before we had to head to the airport after I had I had given her my winnings, of course she burned through it as well.
Later in our friendship she shared with me that she found it difficult to restrain herself from all kinds of different gambling games, bingo, slots, scratch offs, so on and so forth.
long story short, we ended our romantic relationship a year or so after the trip, but remained close friends. She got married a few years later, and not more than a year or two after they filed bankruptcy, they had to give up the home they lived in and pretty much lived hand to mouth.
they then divorced.
we had slowly drifted apart, so we didn’t talk much in the last five years, but 3 years ago I read in the paper, she got married again, and last November I read that they also filed bankruptcy (chap 13)
now I’m not saying the bankruptcy history is being caused by her gambling but it sure makes a person wonder.
