I have a big granite rock that has a large fairly flat face. I would like to carve my last name and my street number into this face. But I have never carved rock and need advice.
Thanks,
Eric

I tried just splitting some granite with the traditional hammer drill and "feathers and wedges".
I now have much more respect for those who can "read" a rocks grain.😆
Carving may be completely different.
Fwiw I think that today this type of number/letters carving is done by masking the stone to remain a sandblasting the surrounding stone away. Probably due to these and other skills and knowledge that have been going away for years.

Most I've done is engraving headstones for my dogs when they pass, using a Dremel tool on sandstone or slate. It's a major PIA.
