I will have mine for 4 years this year and so far no major complaints. It's a bit more expensive than big box store tractors, including the big box store cubs, but the shaft drive is amazingly powerful. It also helps to have a tractor with 23 inch tires as well. More hill climbing and less slipping.

None at all. For the money it can't be beat.

I wish I would have bought the 2544 instead of the 2542...but overall its a been a good tractor.

Looking at a left-over '08 GT2554 for $2995. Good deal?
I may be retiring my 20+ year old Cub 1872. Still runs fine and cuts well, but I'm thinking it is on very borrowed time. While I can get some $$ out it I think I will. Dealer says I can get $1,000-1,500 for it. It's gonna be tough to "downsize" ;) .

I understand what ya thinking... I have a ranch king with 4 wheel steer that I bought in 89 which has been my main lawn tractor... not really attached to it as it is not a hd tractor at all. I plan on pawning it off to my brother. Still looks good and functional but the engine seeps oil and the tractor needs a good cleaning as the steering gear is full of grime from dust/dirt and oil and its getting pretty much worn. A good steam cleaning in the under carrige would do it wonders.
On the other hand I own a 87 446 Ingersoll which is my dedicated snow blowing machine and I find it hard to let that one go. Thought at first to sell and put towards the new tractor... but up to this time it is still sitting in the garage... not sure if i can sell it lol
If you can hang onto the 1872... keep it as a spare or alternate tractor.

Oh yeah... 1.4g off from the new price... yes, that is a good price!

Comes with tiller and front blade that were bought new but never installed on tractor.
2*What do you mean by down size ; is the 1872 bigger than a gt2554?

Yes it is and it's built quite heavier. It has power steering and a hydraulic deck to boot. The 2554 is probably 85% the size of the 1872.

I love my 2518. It has been a great machine. Other than replacing the PTO, I haven't had any major problems.

I purchased my GT2554 new in '07 and love it. The 54 inch deck makes it easer to mow around all the trees that I have. I also purchased the lawn Sweeper, Roller and Blade, and I use them all year long. It's been great! I would recommend it to anyone.
