SWMBO has been buying tower fans for years, we've probably burned through a dozen in as many years. So I'm wanting to get a 20" pedestal fan.
Requirements in order of importance - RELIABLE, oscillating, ~5 foot tall, push air 20 feet, quiet.
Any suggestions?

Too bad you don't live closer. We have 3 in the barn we don't use anymore. I think they are all GE's.

FWIW: We like the medium Vornado fan we have. It is very quiet and moves lots of air, but the one we have doesn't oscillate and is a floor model. I think we have had it twenty years or so.

All the best,

Peter

I have not had good luck with any recent fans except lasko brand Still running after four years. Others died after a couple of years

Harbor Freight Tools has pretty good 20 inch floor model and 30 inch pedestal model, but neither has oscillating mode.
I think oscillation will complicate the design and it's best to stay away from.

I just looked to get a pedestal fan. Everything I looked at was junk. I ended up getting a floor fan that can tilt up. Thankfully, that worked for me. I wish you luck in finding something that isn't junk. I was unsuccessful.

I got the HF pedestal fan. It works pretty good, but the motor runs hot. Too little copper in the windings, I suspect. Something the clerk said made me suspect there have been a lot of warranty returns. If it craps out I'll just fix it, but that may not be practical for a lot of people.

Mine is not HF band but almost identical 20" floor & wall fan from a local hardware store.
Time will tell how the motor holds up but I noticed it runs pretty warm...

The ceiling fan helps during summer and it also runs 24/7 at a low setting which helps to keep the air circulating in the shop - hopefully less moisture issues during rest of the year.
