Any private pilots out here?

Unless you can write off the costs, I would think that renting is the way to go. I have not done any general aviation flying lately, but just the cost of fuel has got to be very pricey. On the other hand, if ownership is something you've always wanted, then go for it. Just do your homework so you have an idea of the true cost of ownership. With the current economic situation there may be some real bargains out there.

Prior to 2001 you could buy a used airplane, fly it for a few years and sell it for more than you paid for it. That is not the case anymore. If someone really has their heart set on buying a plane, now is a good time because prices are way down. But like others have said, do your homework about what the costs are going to be.

I checked into owning vs renting and at the time it was about 200 hours/year to get to the break even point.
After reading some of the cost/hour for the initial rental rates I know I am on the low end at $11/hr wet for C150.

Has been a long time since I have turned a prop.
Haven't had a semi annual physical, BFR, or any thing else for so long it would be like starting over.

Think if I was to do anything today, it would be to just buy a two seater in good shape, that is capable of doing "cow pastures", all on pump gas. Not worry about a license, or an annual, or anything else.

Just get enough dual to keep my butt safe, and never carry a non-licensed passenger...................
