I haven't really introduced myself yet, but I have a curiosity and I'm trying to figure out what it is. It was found in out in the desert.

Does anybody know what this is?

It's a seed boot, blade, and drag chain for a single disc opener on a grain drill. Used for planting small grains such as wheat, oats, barley and rye among other things.

RickB is right and the chain drag was used to loosen the soil to cover the seed.
