Yea, sort of what I had figured also, but would rather err on the side of safety than have the spindle break and fall on someone. I have a few leads on some old truck rearends, just havent gotten around to asking about them.

Just wanted to show off some local redneck engineering. Engineers learn from books, the guys that wrote the books learned it from watching grandpa make it work with what he had.

If one only knew how many well engineered pieces of equipment that I have seen that didnt work as intended, They would quickly appreciate a little redneck ingenuity. I guess one reason engineers design, build proto types, and then test in the field. Engineers learn from the field as much as they learn from a class. As Dr William Albrecht once said, "If what works in the books, doesnt work in the field, you go with what works in the field"

Well, as a update, I did find a 48,000lb truck rear to use in the build, its still setting on my dump trailer waiting on me to find time to start cutting and welding. I have been working on the splitter part of my processor over the holidays. I need to start a thread on the build, but I am only dabbeling and havent gotten into full gear with the fabricating.

Saw one show up on Craigslist around here:

Mini log loader on trailer with bunks and dump frame, Forestry trailer to haul your logs, lumber, and dump for split wood. This trailer is heavy enough to haul a small tractor or skidloader on it. Owner retiring and does not use it. 5th wheel and works well. The loader has not been run in a while but has its own hydraulic power unit to run it. Motor may need some work or be replaced.

You need to find 20 "tbn'ers" to take turns relaying it from where the trailer is (point A) to you (point B). Each person could drive it 50 miles then relay it to the next. Each driver would cover 100 miles round trip and in a couple days you'd have it in your driveway. That would be team work eh?

Are you offering to drive the first leg of the Trip??? Really good ideal, but might be hard to pull off. Anyways, I bought a 48,000 truck rear to make the swivel with and will probably build something like the one in the links on the first few pages of this thread. Its more a time and money thing right now, and I dont have either.

I am not sure it would be up to a trip from NY to NC without new tires and possibly new wheelbearings (based on appearance). I would recommend trailering it...
Do you think it would be workable (within height limits) backed onto a wedge style car hauler trailer? I know of someone (friend of someone at work) who hauls cars up to NY from Georgia/Florida on a 3 car wedge behind a DRW 1 ton and I think he sometimes has room when heading south...
I don't have a gooseneck hitch, but some of the guys at work do and something might be able to be arranged. Send me a PM if you are interested and I can look into it further and what it might cost to get it from point A to point B...

aczlan, If i was to consider it, I would probably take my torches and cut it off the trailer. To me the trailer is scrap, dont have a use for it. Then one could set it on a car trailer, strap it down and take it down the road. I would think if loaded on one of those wedge trailers you are talking about, height might become an issue. I appreciate the thoughts, but think I will pass.

Thanks Jaymed, I was in Charlotte last wk and saw that listed. The $9900 price tag, while probably worth the money, is more than I am willing to pay. I dont need the trailer, just the boom.

Muddstopper, this is a long shot but this CL link has been up locally (S. indiana) for a long time. It's just the grapple ($1000). He lists it as a graffle so maybe that's why it hasn't sold yet.

thats a big "graffle", way bigger than I need. Valby has rotator for about $700, I can get one from China for about $200, but the shipping is almost $400. Right now my plans are to go with the Valby rotator and make my own grapples. I also know where another big "graffle" is close for about Half what that guys asking.
