I was cruising ebay for Yanmars yesterday and found this Yanmar for sale. The seller states that when you need parts for this 2210D you buy them for a JD 850. He goes further to say that you can't tell them apart. Hmmm? Being the Yanmar purist that I am I click on ASK SELLER A QUESTION. I explain to him that there may be a filter or minor part for the 850 that fits the 2210 but they are entirely different tractors. His has a 2 cylinder engine with powershift tranny and the 850 has a 3 cylinder with straight gears. I also added that the 2210D was built in 77-78 not 87-88. I was very courteous and told him that I would hate to see him get negative feedback from someone over this. He has the tractor painted green and yellow, which I don't mind, paint it whatever color you want, but he went as far as to add John Deere decals. I finally got a response from him this evening.

My e-mail to him:

( "What parts have you gotten for your tractor that were the same as the JD 850? Maybe fuel and oil filters, but the 2210 is nothing like the 850. The 850 has a 3 cylinder engine, the 2210 has a 2 cylinder. The 850 has a straight gear transmission and the 2210 has power shift. The 850 was the same as the 2500 Yanmar. I would hate to see someone buy this tractor from you and then hit you with negative feedback if they found out. I have seen selling Yanmars for about 9 years now so I know a little about them. Good luck with your auction." )

His response:

( the water pump i put on is for 850 and the manuels for it is a 850 and everything in books match up on tractor )

How do some people sell yanmars on e-bay and others get the boot? Nice looking yanmar deere.

As nasty as John Deere was with the Chinese tractors just painted green and yellow, I'd sure hate to be this guy if they saw the decals. If he sells it with the decals, he is opening himself up for some serious legal pain.

He sure is setting himself up for problems with the Deere stickers. The pictures imply it is a Deere and then he says all Deere parts fit and it is basically identical.

Buyer beware.

Last thing, the price--$7500 first bid--granted some attachments are included. He is obivously trying to suck in the Deere buyer by saying its the same, has the stickers, etc.

I am one of those uninformed sellers as well. Or shoudl I say I was. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Put ad on ebay to sell my Yanmar later model "grey market" tractors and ended the auction after a couple days. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif After being contacted by ebay I called the person representing Yanmar over this and it's pretty clear. You can't sell them. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Now I haev to dig a big hole to bury these nice tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Well NOT but I won't be getting any more of them for my stock to sell once these are gone. I do see some people getting away with advertising them and just laugh and think goodluck.

Darin,

I wouldn't say you are an uninformed seller unless you were calling your tractor something that it isn't. The guy in my posting is calling a 2210 identical to a Deere 850, which isn't even close.

I think Ebay is legally wrong here... These tractors can be sold legally in the US so they as a selling venue should not be allowed to pull these auctions. The problem is that Ebay and Yanmar have more money than guys trying to sell USED tractors on Ebay......... U know New Holland pretty much seems to have exclusive rights to sell Blue tractors in the US....All this would be a new thread and I aint doing that again.....

It does seem to be hit or miss on enforcement, I've seen other greys sold as a Yanmars recently on Ebay.......
I also don't understand how they can prohibit selling these tractors, as long as they are identified as what they are, and not US models. Me, I'll just put an ad in the local paper if I want to sell mine, I guess......

Yea at this point I don't want Ebay to get any more money....I don't think I will sell my Yanmar for 20 years or so.....Then maybe just donate it to charity.......I had thought about trading it for a modern unit (like a new farmall) but The Yanny does everything I need it too and it is paid for......I may get one of those Z mowers though.........

I bought a ZTR to mow my property because of the hilly terrain and all the trees to mow around - workss great and takes 1/3 the time to mow. I considered just buying a finish mower to pull behind the Yanmar, but I'm glad I spent the extra $$$ and bought the ZTR. I have a little less than 3 acres to mow, here's what I bought...............

Yea thats it... I use a 2000 Huskey hydrastat tractor and if I can wear the thing out I will get something like your mower....Problem is I figured out how to service the tranny and differential so it will prob run for ever....... I think I finish mow less than an acre....I use the yanny with bh to do the rest of my 8 acres.... I use to mow some of that with that poor little huskey but it still does a nice job... I just change oil and blades so far.... I am gonna service the trans this year.....
This could be new thread so I will close......

My next door neighbor had a Huskey and said it was the best made ZTR he'd found, plus he liked that it was made in KS. When I went to buy mine a couple of years later I couldn't remember the name so I wound up with the Exmark (which has been perfect so far), then last year, at a seminar I met one of the VP's for Huskey and he gave me his card, then I was able to find them on the web. I think they look like a well made mower so I have a feeling you'll be using yours for quite a while...........

The critical difference is that you were selling them commercially. I could see Ebay/Yanmar/JD having an issue with that as you are the source for these tractors. I just bought a 1110d off of ebay from dealer. The critical difference is that he doesn't sell Yanmars, he just had this one in on trade. The auction went off without a hitch and hopefully I'll have a nice tractor.

Please explain how you sell one UNcommercially? You say the guy that sold you one doesn't sell Yanmar, he just had one on trade? Did he sell it to you? Was it a Yanmar? If the answer to these is "yes", then he sold a Yanmar. And taking it on trade and then selling it is pretty much the heart and soul of "commerce".

And the poster you address is NOT the source of those tractors. The source is the factory where they are made. That poster is probably not even the "source" for bringing them into the U.S.

ah my huskey is lawn tractor that I bought at TSC made by MTD....... I will look into those huskey ztr mowers......

If you have been following the Yanmar Ebay thing you would know that your auction was just luck.....Has nothin to do with commercial sales.......

/ Another uninformed seller #19
I've only been watching the auctions for a couple of weeks now. Havn't seen any that I was watching ended. The only problem that I knew of was one guy who was trying to offer a "buy it now" option and kept on having scammers end his auction. I did see the green "JD" Yanmar and immediatly dismissed it. To try an misrepresent something so grossly was a large red flag. I did e-mail another fellow that was trying to sell his 1310 as having 25hp and got him to reduce the power to a more realistic hp.

Yeah there is a big difference between the MTD Husky sold at TSC and the Husqvarna brand. The 'Husqy' ZTR's look to be well made.
