What are the pieces called that bolt the two pieces of track together? My neighbor found 4 of them on the side of the road and gave me two. They weight approx. 60lb each and have 6 large bolt holes in them. I need to know what is the best way to cut them each into 3 pieces to make front weights on my Mitsu. Chop saw? Cold cut saw?

thanks,
Bill

I used my abrasive saw with no problems cutting some trac that I have on the ft. of my 372.

The trac is treated and may ruin a cold saw blade.

Fish plates. If I were cutting them,I'd pop a cutting disk in my 7 inch angle grinder or use my torch.

Hi,

My torch cuts look like poo-poo on track so I used my cold cut saw to cut my self an anvil and it made a nice cut, but it took some teeth off the $100 blade in the process. TO be fair the blade was at the end of it's life anyways, which is why I tried it, but I think it might shorten the life of those blades a bit.

I would try the big grinder with cutoff wheel (might take a few) or an abrasive blade cutoff saw if you have one.

Wear a mask though with all the other safety doodads.

They are called angle bars. Use a chop saw.

My 2 cents-

Find a friend with a band saw (or buy one from HF for $160). Once you get it started, you can walk away. I have not found anything better for cutting thick stuff (and I have cut-off saws and a torch)

bx24 is right about the band saw, but I don't have one handy.
