Ummm ... I have to say this ... I'd hate to live in the world you do where paranoia and fear rule even the smallest of insignificant events ...

From this I see ... someone was visiting your cousin, realised (due to the lack of car in the drive) that they weren't there and reversed, for some other reason, they stopped (maybe to make a call, who knows ?) and this event was enough to be concerned ?

Why would that matter? If I'm going to go investigate suspicious activity on my friends land I should leave my protection at the property line?

Maybe it wasn't a big deal? Maybe he was just stopping bye? Maybe he recognized you and got agitated at being blinded. He did stop his car afterall, and you said his first words were 'didn't you recognize me'. I'm sure it would only take about 3 seconds of a neighbor continuing to shine me or you in the eyes before we'd be agitated too.

I'm sure your neighbor would have been better off to just say "see you later", but he didn't and he's still your neighbor. The best thing for you to do is stop by HIS house and say hi. Even apologizing for shining him would be in your best interest. Do that and I'm sure you'll be much better off in case you ever have an ACTUAL problem and need help.

Alot of paranoia here. Talk of deadly force for a NEIGHBOR visiting another neighbor?

Now if i heard a window smash, or a scream, or something, well thats a bit different. Sounds like the neighbor went by, got out, probably walked up to the door and knocked. Got no response and left in a reasonable period of time. Whats the big deal?

Wow! That's really sad. Are you saying this with emphasis on the OP's story, or is this just a regular practice in your part of the country?
