im looking at putting down crusher run in three spots
1.30x30 driveway
2.12x25 parking for tractor
3.80x5 walkway to house
all at 4 inches deep,if i did my math it 17-18 yards .
?1.is 4 inches deep enough?
?2.at $490 for 14 yards a fair price?
?3.material that you out down first whats the lenght and width ?(geo something )

around here we pay about $160 for 14 ton which is about a 12-14 yard (three axle) truck full. but, you pay whatever the local quarry charges. fuel cost is prohibitive to look much farther away.

didn't check your math, but sounds like you may want at least two loads. it never goes as far as you think and the pile they dump always looks pretty small after the truck goes away...

any thoughts on how to keep the rock and grassy areas separated? i have defaulted to using rr ties, but am always looking for a better (easier) method that doesn't cost much more.

also, i would say it's a good idea to get any drainage issues fixed before you bring in the rock. culverts, gutter runs, perf pipe - all much easer and cleaner to do before hand.

i also like to try to kill the grass and weeds real good before spreading the rock.

Guess it depends on where you are and what your soil is like but we would put down a heavier stone as a first layer and top with crusher run. Also keep in mind on your walk way that crusher run will track a lot of stone dust into the house. If you had borders for the walk I would put 57 down as a cleaner alternative.

Checking your math, assuming your dimensions are in feet:
30*30+12*25+80*5=1600 sqft
4"deep=.33333 ft
1600*.33333=533.33 cft
there is 27cft in 1cyd, so 533.33/27= 19.75 cyd

But like others said, the laws of leveling gravel says you will always run short. Order more, and have a little stockpile to get potholes next year.

I think you are looking for geotextile fabric, might be a little overkill in your usage, but you could use it to keep a steady base.

now the next question do most people just put over the grade they have or do they lower it the 4 inches?

I guess it depends on your border. If you don't scrape out 4" then you are going to have to make sure you have a steady border that is staked down sturdy. I would probably scrape it down if you have the equipment to do it relatively easily.
