We'll gang, here's what I've been working on lately. It is a Yanmar SV-100 with our DAH-080C. We put this one together for Palmetto Brush and a few others. The excavator was spec'd at 37 gpm @3500psi. The tractor weights 20K. I was pleased with it's performance, nice and stable and good and capable. Mulched a 12" tree for fun. I will upload pictures of the stump next. I like this excavator for it's simplicity, hopefully would live a long and colorful life.

I guess it's a good idea. Maybe it will handle a bigger tree than a mulcher on a skid steer?? Maybe it can get to trees that a skid steer mounted mulcher can't?? What is really the additional benefit?

If I had an excavator I'd pull up the tree instead of mulching it.

A few more pics. As some of you know I'm not a little guy. That is a size 11 shoe for perspective.

Guess if you already have an excavator and just wanted to mulch instead of pull up the trees....but you still leave a stump??..
I dunno...call me stupid but it seems like the whole purpose in using an excavator for this type of work is to eleminate the stumps in the ground and this doesn't do that. I'd stiil like to know the benefit of this over a skid steer mulcher.

This setup is for a where skid steers will not and should not go. It will mulch on embankments, around lakes and dams. Also useful in retention ponds, all places you would not want to disturb the soil by pulling the root system. Plus you would have a hard time pulling up a 14" tree root ball and all with only a 20K machine. Also here if you disturb the soil it requires a permit and licensing. Depends on your mission.

I guess I could add to this thread too..here are a few pics of what Robbie and I did when he came up here recently....

Robbie is actually only about 4'6 and weighs about 90lbs...don't let that pic of the sapling fool you! :D

This is a Tak TB175 putting out 3300 psi at around 22-23gpm...balances better than the 080..according to Robbie as I haven't run an 080...going to be hooking one up to a Terex TC75 soon as well pics to follow...

This is a good example of where you would want to use to Excavator instead of the Skid Steer

All three excavators are about the same on flow. I can tell the difference but most wouldn't. The Kubota does good, the Tak abit better with it's conventional tale, and the Yanmar is just beefy at 20K. The tak holds it's own with the least H.P. I was impressed with. The Yanmar for it's simplicity. And the Kubota has a good rep. I wouldn't sell one tractor for another, just buy one of our heads and blow everyone away!!! Ryan said it well about where to us an exxcavator.
And for slopes just drop the blade and level the turret and mulch. You can use our head while not running like a bucket and put it on the ground for stability.

How about a good close up photo of the cutting teeth.

It seems like that the most chipping heads were mounted horizontal with the boom. It also seems like the horizontal mounted head would be more versatile.
