I bet some of you will be surprised at these results of testing various nails and screws for holding power and a simple corrosion test.

And while we are at it, how about testing shear strength too!

He needs to slow down a bit with that chop saw.... :)
He should have kept the pulling device from rotating while pulling up. Not a fair test to allow the steel piece to rotate with the nail while pulling.
Few nails are rated for withdrawal resistance.

As Repete pointed out- allowing the lifting device to freely rotate while pulling out the spiral shank nail, makes the test of that fastener type, null and void. He basically unscrewed it. Seems kind of disingenuous to make the video and place it in last place, without at least verbally mentioning that in a real world application, the fastened parts would not be pulled straight out while rotating.

Yep...Good point........Guess one would know that if they ever tried to "pull" a spiral nail.

I had seen this before and I was shocked. I knew screws were better but I had no idea they were that much better. Deck screws are way more expensive and take more time but I use them for just about everything.

No surprise that screws won the competition and ring shanks came in second but I was surprised how well the galvanized nail held.

I have been watching Project Farm videos from the beginning. At first his tests were very unscientific. He just wasn't doing a very good job with controlling variables. But with each video he seems to improve a little. And even his first videos have good and useful info in them. I have made some suggestions to him, he thanked me directly, and later used these suggestions to get more accurate results. I am sure others have too because of the way he keeps improving his testing methods. I think he must read all the comments and acts on the good suggestions he gets. I have to hand it to the guy, he must spend a lot of time on his videos. Videos that don't advertise, don't have stupid hype, and show the testing of stuff used in the real world.
