I'm thinking a couple judicious minutes with a grinder or file and an electrical box slug would yield a ?free? Tool that could be manipulated with a set of pliers.

I didn't really want to get the supreme court involved in the design of a wrench, but isn't an electrical box slug to soft of steel for a choke tube wrench?, I was thinking of harder tool steel.

Yup, the big knock out slug should do it.

I did a quick search and someone said a US Quarter and vise grips does the trick too!

.25 cents is to big for a tube wrench on my 20 ga. I'd have to grind it down, then it will only be worth .02 cents.

Well anything that wont harden and be susceptible to heat and carbon fouling. I am thinking some of the things you mentioned might not be so good.

So no bee's wax then, how about sillycone, graphite, break free oil, or how about nothing I have and borrow $7.00 from the wife and order choke tube lube.

Hmm, I don't have a 20ga to play with so I don't know. Nickel maybe?

OK, according to web a 20ga full bore is .615" so I got my caliper out and a electrical box slug is .929" so that's too big. I still say needle nose pliers and then stick a screw driver between the handles like when you are tightening a sink drain. Make nice smooth edges so you don't scratch anything.

As far as hardness ... shouldn't be a problem unless it is a choke that's been neglected and it's really frozen in there.

Probably the easiest is just to cut a piece of metal to fit inside the bore in the choke notches and just turn with pliers/vise grips. That would be quicker than my idea of sacrificing a pair of needle nose pliers. I've seen some of your work before so I know you probably have a metal band saw so you should be able to basically copy a "real" wrench in no time flat.

I use that black powder breach plug lube/anti-seize Thompson Center makes for muzzle loaders.
