If I wanted fine decorative engraving on my field expedient choke wrench, I'd start with a piece of scrap that had that pattern ;)

Tighten just until snug, and use a lube. When the barrel is cleaned remove the choke tube and clean and lube it again. Never leave the choke tube in forever thru many cleanings. It can become unitized...uh.. not a good thing. Remember the threads are small and the choke tube itself is kinda thin. I ain't saying you have to use the lube below, but DONT use WD-40. the tube below will probably last you for many years..Remember less is more.

Birchwood Casey Choke Tube Lube 3/4oz

So would you give that tube lube 5 stars and recommend it to a TBN fellow associate, friend, neighbor, brother, uncle. But what about using black powder bore lube, never seize, Crisco, low fat bacon grease, bearing grease, motor oil, gear oil, STP oil treatment, car wax, bees wax..................:reading:

Well anything that wont harden and be susceptible to heat and carbon fouling. I am thinking some of the things you mentioned might not be so good.:D

Breech plug grease or never seize.

8 hours for a flat notch engaging wrench? I hope you meant 8 minutes! :)

I think a field expedient one could be whipped up in about that long, give or take 3 minutes :)

I take a lot of pride in my work, first I have to devise a plan, have a meeting, draw a picture, take measurements, make a blue print, read blue print, then fill out a request form to start production. We'll now it's time for a coffee break...........there back at it..................

If you have a Walmart, Dick's etc., they should have a choke wrench. I don't know that it would be worth the time to make one. I guess if you "really" want to make something ... just butcher a pair of needle nose pliers ... grind off the serrations and make it to fit in the choke slots. I confess to hacking up channel locks to make FN FAL gas wrench and needle nose pliers to make G3 rear sight tool. :)

Gandor mountain sells them. That and breech plug grease .

I'm thinking a couple judicious minutes with a grinder or file and an electrical box slug would yield a ?free? Tool that could be manipulated with a set of pliers.

Yup, the big knock out slug should do it.

I did a quick search and someone said a US Quarter and vise grips does the trick too!
