Basically the title is the question, who do they "make and paint" their hoes for ?
I have one, the 8 1/2 ft., I would like to know where else I could shop for parts, in particular buckets, maybe a thumb, etc.

Check against JD. I found out they made the valve system for my 448

Thanks,
I asked at the local JD parts counter today, they seemed to think that the Sales folk MIGHT know the origin of the Frontier hoes.
I didn't bother (-:

Another lead from Rick Rinehardt at Everythingattachments.com suggested Bush Hog and sure enough when I looked at the owner's manual on their site it pretty much matches mine - apart from a few cosmetic things and a couple of specifics on hooking the hydraulics into a BH loader power beyond, etc.

So just in case anyone else is interested; a Bush Hog 8500 is essentially a Century C86, is an Amerequip 8600, is an (dunno what else)

Cidertom,
It turns out that Amerequip made the WHOLE 448 hoe for Deere.
So, I measured a 448 Deere bucket at the local AWE_THEN_TICK Deere dealer yesterday; check, pin diameter, length, spacing matches - then I priced it.
OUCH ! It will be a while before I shop there for parts.

Montana is another one and for me that dealer seems to be the best combination of 'close to home' and "non-premium price".
BTW, Branson is another one.

ONLY 8 years later and it seems I will be needing some Amerequip (or equivalent) parts.
Brief description; there is looseness/slop/play at the base of the boom.
Until I get it apart I am assuming that there is wear in the pins/bushings that the boom hinges up/down on.
Anyone here ever taken one of these apart for such work ?
My guess is that everything is heavy and I will have to lay it out, i.e. extend the boom and dipper stick, maybe then roll it on its side.
My workshop will have to be my back yard and I will probably have to use the FEL for any heavy lifting.
I have a few jack stands, floor jack, bottle jack, etc.

Should I just take it to a farm equipment repair shop and PAY, or is this realistically a DIY job for someone with limited shop facility ?
