that cannot push diddly with a 1700 and a box blade /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif? I can pull the blade up a storm put if I try to push dust, the wheels start spinning. I know, the tread direction favors pulling, but I mean, I can't push anything! Any hints?

I guess I only tried pulling when I owned a 1700. It was 2WD and I assume yours might be too. 4WD may have helped.

Possibly tilt the box blade forward a bit so the rear blade doesn't try to dig in quite so much.

Boxblades and 3ph's are not designed for pushing. If you push very much you will probably bend or break something. That rear blade is for dragging and smoothing.

I never was very handy at using the box blade. With my 1700 and a 5' straight blade I can pull and push with equal success.

I think wheel weights or tire ballast is what's missing. I can pull a 90% full box with rippers down, or push 1/3 of that, with 450 lbs of water in the tires on essentially the same tractor.

I think angle of the blade and the amount of material you are targeting will be the issues.

I've cut nicely while pulling.. but when pushing I have to angle the blade back up a bit. Also.. I found I could push a pile while slowly lifting the blade, to kind of make a 'running ramp' to smooth stuff out backwards.

But a bulldozer it aint. I broke my adjustable link the first day I had the box blade /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.. well first hour! So don't feel bad. That was before I had stabilizer chains to keep the box outta the tires.

I noticed that i couldn't push that well, so i had some fluid put in the tires. mine's 2wd , but if i square up and put the diff lock in, ipush pretty good. soundguy has some good advice,try to raise the stuff being pushed, and adjust your angle.

Thanks guys for the good hints and making me realize that it is not Operator Headspace as we say in the Army. It is not often that I would want to push but the few times that I did were frustrating. Steve
