Alternator Belt

Got tractor back from dealer after an hard to start when cold issue , was just getting a loud thump when key was turned , if I could get the engine to turn over it would start ..they replaced glow plugs , fuel relays ECU , don't understand why ? And finely they replaced the starter after 6 weeks the tractor was back , first cold morning "CLICK THUMP" ok sounds like a battery to me , replaced battery with a Napa gold ...and it started right up , now to the vbelt ...cold morning and snow had several tries to get tractor to start , glow plug cycle than crank after 5 or 6 times it starts ... notice smoke coming from under hood shut it down ,found broken fan belt of course had to order belt , anyway replaced belts all was fine weather had warmed up and it started every time all seemed well , weather turn cold again go to start same thing 5 or 6 30 seconds cranks to get tractor started battery light came on smoke coming under hood shut it down ...Alternator belt was smoking ... and melted belt crumbs all over alternator.... ( yes it was tighten to spec with a belt gauge) restarted engine to see what was locked up and it started and ran just fine battery light out fan turning , went ahead and use the tractor for about 2 hours ...question is just what could be causing this , alternator ? Starter shorting ?
I'm at a loss I did buy a spare belt hate to change it before I locate what's causing this.

Could be alt or water pump ?

That's the only two Fuctions of this belt
Thinking alternator that's where most the burnt rubber was , only does this when a hard load is put on battery , never had this problem until starter was replaced ...( May have nothing to do with it but is a suspect)

Take the alt out have it bench tested , spin the fan by hand to check water pump I blow the alt out with air when I clean the front screen always full of dust maybe the bearings are seizing up when it gets hot

Water pump free , didn't detect any noise
Alternator spins free also no noise ... Alternator shouldn't get hot when starting engine.

Not for sure will check , deep green in over flow bottle , same as came from dealer two years ago

Na alternator get harder to turn as load increases , only parts the dealer change was glow plug , fuel relays ECU and starter wasn't doing this before I had it serviced...

Checked antifreeze minus fortythree ( -43 )
So that's not the problem......back to alternator, bearing going out , voltage regulator or starter shorting

Could see how no or little antifreeze could cause a problem
Used tractor most of the day with no trouble at all...outside temp in the 30s ....only time I have this problem is when I have to crank the engine more than 5 or 6 sessions
The last time it was 8 degree ...I have used the tractor 10 hours with many starts ( warmer temperatures only had to crank the engine over 1 or 2 times to get it to start....next cold day I have someone try start it so I can watch and see what's happening. Thinking it's most likely a bearing or a bad voltage regulator over taxing the fields in the alternator... just a guess.......thanks for all the replys at least I know what not the problem.....yes I checked each and every one...all were good points

Dealer would be down there on his own time to figure out the problem. Looks like he threw a bunch of expensive parts at it though. Hope they weren't on your dime. I do realize that intermittent problems are hard to track down sometimes but that is ridiculous.
