what else is on that 7.5 amp circuit?

adding 3 amps to a small circuit may be the only issue you have now that the dead short is taken care of.

That circuit that is connected to the factory rear bullet connectors says "7.5A Combination Meter". You would think if I couldn't hook up a couple LED lights to it then its basically useless.

Understand you are taking the lamps back,. But there are still questions in my head.. I cannot explain why the lamps light intermittantly. and I cannot explain why the lamps blew the 60 amp main fuse at one time unless you had some wiring shorted. Just too many unknowns. Let us know how you make out, I assume you will try again either with different ones, or a different model.. let us know if we can help. Oh, I take it you found and open circuit from the positive lead to the case or mounting bolt of each lamp right? so no chance of the plus short circuiting when you mounted the lamps.?

Check out the "CK27 light hookup" thread. Might be of some help to you. I can't seem to be able to copy and paste a direct link to it.

each lamp has a White lead (hot) Black lead (ground).

Lamp 1, connected directly to battery. didn't go on. then i tried it again, it went on. Then a third time id didnt . lol
Lamp 2, connected directly to battery. didn't go on in 3 tries.
Battery is @ 12.2V

Looks like I am taking these back. :-(

Can't thank you guys enough for you time.

We us a lot of dc at work, and usually the black wire is pos. and white is neg. I have seen, devices with a red and black wire and in that case the red was pos. and the black neg. Just putting it out there, it may mean nothing in your situation.

Black wire is also hot on AC wiring and white is neutral.

Correct and I thought on his post he said the white is hot. I don't know a lot about leds. Would polarity make any difference?

From all my experience in the electrical world, working with DC voltages, white is positive, black is negative, working with AC voltage, white is neutral, black is hot. Don't ask me why this was adopted but it appears to be common in the workplace.
