Hi,
I have an Allis Chalmers G that I picked up and am restoring enough to use on our acre of veggies. The problem I am having is with the front toolbar hydraulic lift or pump, not sure which. When I got this tractor the front hydraulic cylinder was froze up, so I took the cylinder apart and got the ram freed up enough to push it back and forth by hand with some slight resistance. I then changed the transmission differential fluid where the hydraulic pump, pumps from, which had a lot of water in it. I also put a new rubber boot on the top of the transmission housing where the gear selector comes in. The tractor will lift the toolbar frame with the weight of two or three cultivating shanks with sweeps, but no more, and I would like to have eight on there. So I am thinking I should pressure test the hydraulic pump, but I have no idea what psi rating it should be capable of, any thoughts? I have a hard time believing that the resistance the ram produces that I can push would be to much for the pump, but I don't know.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ben

If you take the pump to a hyd shop, they surely can tell you the max pressure the pump is capable of as is.

I believe the pass fail/replace for a pump is if the pump can pump about 75 % or rated volume.
