Allis Chalmers D17

I bought a D17 that needed the hydraulic pump repaired. I used it before the pump was repaired and it ran and pulled fine. Since then it has not been pulling as well. The last time I tried to use it, it would barely pull itself. It seems the pump is loading the motor up. Any ideas?

My first thought is I would make sure that all hydraulic levers are in the float or "neutral" position. A lever may be directing the oil flow to a dead end which is loading the engine. If you don't have a lever or valve issue I would consult the mechanic who installed the pump. Is it an early D17 with an internal pump or a series three or four that has the pump externally mounted on the right side?

It is an early 60's. Series I I think. It has an internal pump. I put the pump back in after I had it repaired. The mechanic that checked it out is no longer working at the dealership. My problem here is that I can't find anyone who remembers how to work on tractors that old and there aren't that many Allis Chalmers around this part of the country. The levers are in the neutral position as far as I can tell.
