All mowers should have one of these magnetic sweepers attached to front. It would pick up any nail, wire, or lost part before it gets run over or punctures a tire. I'm thinking about ordering this or similar.

If you have ever used that type of magnet in the grass to find nails you would know your success rate will be very low.

how much ground clearance for the attachment? thinking it wouldn't last long in my rough terrain

I have a magnet pickup that rolls on wheels typically used by roofers to get up stray nails. The height needs to be set so that the grass doesn't knock off the nails that are drawn to the magnet. If the nails fell onto grass that was cut shortly before the roofing job, you have a better chance of actually getting them up. My experience with the magnet I have is that once the grass grows up around the fallen nails, good luck.

I pretty much got all the stray barbwire and sharp objects cleared off my land years ago. The tires and flail mower do a great job of picking those up. I remember coiling up about a 100' of partially burred barbwire so fast it stalled the tractor before I could cutoff the PTO. It took me hours to clear all that out of the mower. And I've since bought new tires to replace the Swiss cheese rubber. Cactus is my enemy now.

I'm thinking attached out front (2×2"×4" pieces out & rope, clamped on, drag ground. Not permanent) I've been everywhere with various magnets, but not like a mower back and forth every sq.in.
Just a thought...

Neat idea. In theory it should be great.
In practice it would be a fail. Most yards are rough enough to knock the metal off the magnet and if this would be used on a zero turn, the speed would prevent it from catching much at all.
Good idea but not practical.

I have three mounted on my mower, total cost, $12 from Harbor Freight! Works great. Plus I can quick removed to clean them off.

They use it for a tool organizer, I use it as a magnet sweep bar.
