Air compressors?

You need much more air to paint.

John, I guess it depends on how much painting, what kind of paint, and what kind of paint spray gun. I had a Craftsman, one quart spray gun, with which I painted a dune buggy of my cousin's with automobile enamel paint. Then some neighbors got together with me and we painted 5 houses (two of them a second time a few years later), one with oil based paint, the others with latex and we did it all with a little one hp, 10 gallon, portable compressor.

But of course, I agree that dry air sure helps.:D

The Dewalt turns out is not oil lubed. I'll check the TSC one. Do you guys think that 6.5 gallons with 5 or so CFM is going to be fine to run a basic 1/2" impact wrench for changing winter tires over to summer etc?
If the nuts come off clean and quick youll be ok. The impact actually uses more than your delivery so any prolonged banging will end up with you waiting a little on the compressor to catch up.

If you are going to do any amount of painting just get an airless sprayer. Basic models are pretty cheap these days and there is nothing better for tractor and house stuff. Latex or oil base, not a problem, one is just a little harder to clean. I've got a Graco 190es and will never look back. Not the best for cars but I'll let a pro paint my car.

I have an air tank made from a 40lb freon tank, so lets say about 4 gallons maybe? Starting with 150psi., I can take a tire off and out it back on with a 1/2" impact no problem. I would guess your looking at a 125psi., with a 6.5 gal, that should be about the same run time.

I have a Clark Champ that I bought at TSC about 3 years ago. It's a compressor with an oil chamber. Think this is important, as I had an oilless one that didn't last long.

The Champ does about 0.5 SCFM. This has been enough to run my impact wrench (Farmhand) and a touchup sprayer. (Unless you're doing large surfaces, a touchup sprayer, again at TSC, is all you'll need.)

Think it's tank is about 2 gallons. I saved tha tank of the oilless one that gave up and link the 2 together with a hose.

I've had a few... (compressors) I like the one I bought last for a couple reasons. I was reading the specs. in Grainger and I stumbeled on the TBO or whatever they called the life expectancy, and I saw that the 1800 rpm unit (oilless) lasted twice as long as those that make much more annoying noise.
Two birds I think.
