On further watching the video, there was a horror story about a guy driving a Tesla on auto. He dropped his cell phone. While he was looking at it, the car approached a T intersection, blasted right through it, across the lanes, and hit a car broadside that was parked on the other side of signs marking the end of the road/turn arrows. There was a man and woman standing next to the car. The man lived, but badly injured. They didn't know a woman was involved until a female cop noticed female flip-flops on the ground. She was thrown way into the bushes and died. It was about 10 minutes before they found her.

Guy sued Tesla and the car owner. Refused out of court settlement. Jury found both the driver and Tesla guilty. Tragic story.

W/O really trying to, over time, I've come across multiple videos that show the folly of Elon's insistence of ONLY using Visual input/processing (other fatalities involved).

That T system, should not be marketed as Autopilot.

I may sound anti-Tech, but I'm not. Similar to the ex fighter-jet pilot/consultant in the vid, I have tremendous concern about the implications of dangerously deficient Tech, esp. in the Wild.

I can't imagine that anyone "accidentally" signs-up to test experimental jets/airframes, but a tiny subset of that experience is in process on our public roads.

Yep. I think camera vision only and asking the system to determine what's there is crazy.

Just had an interesting experience. I called United Health with questions about my Medicare Part D. I got routed around and ended up with a man who had a slight accent I couldn't place. Wasn't quite Latin, wasn't quite Indian. Every time I asked a question, he was very polite and gave me a lot of information but never quite answered the question. After we went around for 10 minutes or so, I got frustrated, thanked him and hung up. After the call I wondered if I was talking to an AI bot or if he was just an idiot.

Either way, he accomplished the company's goal: you got frustrated, gave up and went away.

I had a similar experience. I had a nice voice asking me to respond to questions. After several times of ending up with the same questions I realized I was dealing with AI. I never hung up I just calmly asked to speak to a real person. Within seconds I was talking to someone who could actually respond in a valid way.

Like many, or even most Canucks, I've had to creep a vehicle to home/work through blinding snow storms.

That ^, is the obvious one, but it doesn't take Winter. 25 years or so ago, there was a massive pileup on the 401 in Western Ontario.... a business associate of mine was in a van full of guys, heading to Detroit for a conference..... they JUST braked to a safe stop, pulled WAY to the side of the road, at the very tail-end of that. Dry roads, just massive fog cover. Many people died in that pileup.

GM had production HUD displays quite a few years ago.Imagine what could be done Today for a DRIVER HUD ?

Snow, Fog, Heavy Rain, Sandstorms.... etc..... I prefer my vehicles Simple, but would willingly pay serious money for a Lidar/Radar based HUD for the DRIVER's review.

Maybe that's what I'll have to build as my retirement project..... A Model A, with a fully functional "vintage" HUD..... .

If you Want It Done Right.....

One of the problems with all the automated work on the "internet" information is that while it may work 95% of the time, when it doesn't work it's hard to get anything corrected. I sometimes get people driving down my driveway to my house, thinking it's a street. I looked on Google Maps and found that my driveway was labeled with a street name (a street that's about 600 feet south of me and shows with the correct name.) I put in a comment to Google, got a response that they were looking at it. Them I got another message that said they were correcting the maps and it might take a day to show up correctly. It's been a week now and it still has the error. When I get around to it, I guess I will comment again and see if it can be fixed.
