What I'm saying is I don't Think a 66" implement would be a cat 2.

I know. I am agreeing with you, but pointing that out to Waterdog.

Pretty sure it's a CAT II. Also pretty sure it's 66", based on the number of rippers, normally spaced 12", with the outer two at the ends of the box.

As for the lift mechanism for the scarifiers. That's pretty common design. With that said, this box has problems. The lift handle is bent, should be more vertical. That can be fixed if you have metal skills.

The more serious part can't be confirmed with those pics. I see in the second pic that the torsion spring on the left (drivers side) of the mechanism is hanging loose. May be some shafts or swivel mechanisms missing. Without those springs you WILL NOT be able to raise the scarifier bar. It probably weighs 175lbs and is hinged on one side. The springs assist the lifting of that heavy beam and teeth. There's also a linkage toward the back of the lift mechanism that's been broke and welded back together. Still can't figure out why the handle is in that position.

Again, if you have skills, this can be overcome. If not, then you will pay someone to fix it.

Beyond all this, it appears this box has been used hard. Not even sure how you put holes in the rear wall of a BB??? Can't tell by the pics if the rear blade is hinged.

If I needed a box that size, I'd pay $500. But I have the means to fix it without hiring it done.

As to your tractor, that box will weigh 1000-1100lbs. Not sure what the total weight of your tractor is?? You probably ain't gonna drag it full of material, nor are you going to be able to pull it with the rippers down in hard ground.

Look at the pics of Murph's BB. That's the position your handle should be in. Or at least something similar to that. His BB and this one have a very similar lift mechanism.

Yes, but Murph's scarifiers are in the up position, while those in the OP's pic are in the down position. I can see how the linkage works by looking carefully at the OP's second pic when clicked on and then enlarged again.

Murph's BB has two sets of holes for both cat 1 and cat 2 pins too. seeing as the OP's only has one set and it is a 66" BB, I still say cat 1.

Okay, so the OP's scarifiers are down. The handle can't be in that position. It would be hitting the tractor. I'd plan on having to rework the lift mechanism. It's had a rough life.

Its in bad shape for sure. Mine is gonna need some major work also. Richard, should I keep it manual or go Hydraulic?

That's true. Maybe someone took part of it apart and put it back on in that position because A- he didn't know what he was doing, or B- he thought it'd make raising and lowering the teeth easier from the seat. Either way, that is a $200 tool to me in that condition.

Even though it may need a bit of work, it should be worth $500 but if that is the advertised price, you can likely get it a hundred or so cheaper.

I'm a hydraulic freak. But actually, you might try it manual first?? I'd be concerned about the ease of lift/lower and mostly the location of the handle. Can you reach it from the seat or do ya gotta crawl over the back of the seat to use it??

The springs are adjustable to make it lift easier. If you get them too tight you'll have trouble getting the beam to lower and latch. Hafta play with it a little.

Try it like it is Murph. If you don't like it I'll guide you thru the modification.
