Advantage To Offsetting A Flail Mower?

I have mowed with rotary mowers for over 50 years and have my first 6 foot flail mower on order. I noticed that many flail mowers can be manually set up to be off set to one side of the tractor. What is the advantage to doing this over having the mower ride centered behind the tractor? Thanks...

You should be able to mow closer to obstacles such as ditches, fence lines, etc.
