Yeah I agree, that 12 kw genny is not the problem, as long as you know you can't get the full 12 kw out of it with only 22 hp pto input, using the accepted 2 HP per KW formula. Most agree that the larger/heavier spinning rotor helps maintain output thru the fly wheel effect, I wish I got the 12 myself.
Our tractors would really shine with these PTO setups even at or near their max rated output, Only if it was a constant load with out those wide fluctuations in demand, unfortunately that's not real world use and if you're gonna have loads equal to 50% or more of the max rated output coming on and off then you're going to have to watch things closely and probably have to do some power plant management.
Some day, maybe not to far off in the future, our tractors will have some type of PCM function to keep a rock steady PTO speed, that could allow you to truly just set it and forget it.
As far as the portable Coleman goes I guess the simple answer is, that engine and gov system has only 1 job to do and is engineered for just that, unlike the tractor's unlimited possible applications where any one can not take precedence over all the others, basically a trade off.
