The generator cost me $80 but would not start. I thought I could get it running but the generator engine has failed. I want to adapt the generator to my bcs tractor. The generator receives a tapered shaft from the failed engine. I think I will use the failed engine's tapered crankshaft mounted in the crankcase to drive the generator. Machining a tapered shaft to engage the generator and installing pillow block bearings to stabilize the shaft is cost prohibitive. Do you think I can remove the flywheel and bolt a 2-pulley system on the flywheel end of the failed engine crankshaft to get the correct shaft speed? I would remove the failed engine piston but I am concerned about the lobes on the crank causing vibration. What do you think of this project? Am I on the correct path? Its fun to make something out of nothing. I enjoy the process.

Probably a 3600 RPM generator. What speed does your BCS run at? Is it the same or higher horse power.

The generac engine crankcase assembly is aluminum [part # 21857a] and receives the steel bolts that hold the ignition coil pickup. Those fittings have been broken off and I do not think they can be repaired. I cannot install the ignition coil pickup. Is this generator rehab a lost cause?
