Hope I'm not being a pest but I'm getting to know my Kioti and I keep coming up with questions.

I noticed when I test drove the tractor (I ran it through every gear, both forward and reverse) the shuttle shifter would grind a bit if I did not come to a complete stop. When I pointed this out the seller (even though I know better) told me "that's how they all are" and "it's been that way since he bought it" That second phrase seemed to be his go to comment whenever I pointed anything out. Anyway I could see that the clutch peddle needed to be adjusted (it has close to 2" free play) so I reasoned maybe the adjustment would stop the shuttle shift grind. I also read up on quality trans fluid as being able to cure the same. I do not have a TSC store here in Oregon, least ways not from what I can tell on their dealer look up page. So what other Hy/Trans fluid is recommended. I'd like to start there since it would be a good idea to drain and change before I do much tractor work.

I've read that Costco even sells some that many feel is as good as some of the others but not the big brand name stuff.

I read somewhere that Kioti synchros are a weak point. In any case, don't crash shift like a drag racer. Shift into F/R with a firm pressure but not much pressure. If you miss a shift let it spin down a few seconds before trying again. Do adjust the clutch pedal (about 1 inch free play, at least that's the spec on my DK45S). Clutch and tranny repair on these beasts is no small thing; it requites removing the cab and splitting the tractor in two at the clutch bell housing. This is a major job and not DIY stuff unless you have a shop, a traveling lift, and lots of tools. So go easy on the clutch and tranny.

This may sound like a stupid question. Was you using the clutch when you did F-R?

I hear ya. I once split my IH244 over Thanksgiving break. It had a crack in the bell housing and I was told that the engine needed an overhaul,
It had a steel bell house so it welded up nice and it turned out it did not need the engine rebuilt but I had it rebuilt anyway since it was all apart.

I had the engine on a homemade "cherry picker" as we call then back in NoDak. Anyway, it had a swivel arm off the post and I planned to swing it around onto the back end of my 4x8 trailer. As I swung it around it tipped off balance and I just had the edge of it on the trailer and I was holding the C.Picker with my free hand and the engine against my upper leg. Lucky for me my next door neighbor was outside watching me from his yard and he came over and saved the day. He's a HUGE guy and that was exactly what I needed right then.

I can live with the shuttle but as I understand it (in a perfect world) they should shift between F and R on the fly. Oh well, that's what you get buying used equipment.

Again, drain fluid and send it for metal content testing. Use a good replacement fluid and shift it easy until you know more about the machine and how it performs.

Stickflicker, I have owned a DK50C for almost 10yrs. The shuttle shift should not grind between forward and reverse. Mine had a similar problem back in 2004. There is a service bulletin available to the dealers ( through the dealers den ) Bulletin #11802 date issued November 18 2002. Issued by: R Kemp.
Complaint 2 symptoms:
1. Shuttle shift lever stuck in forward or reverse.
2. Grinding sound when shifting forward or reverse.
9 years ago mine was under warranty for this fix. Today you will most likely have to pay for it or do it yourself. The service bulletin goes through the repair procedure step by step and yes you do have to split the tractor and replace synchronizers if needed and shim the end play on the shuttle shaft. Apparently when built some transmissions were shimmed with excessive play and grinding would occur. Mine was fixed 9 yrs ago and has been fine ever since. I hope this helps and good luck with what ever you decide to do. My DK50 is one of the best purchases i have ever made it still works like new.

Another thing, don't shift from fwd to reverse (or vice versa) in one swift move. Shift from fwd to neutral, pause, and then into reverse. Hopefully that will ease the load on the syncros.
