I cut the grass in front of our place as an act of CIVIC pride. Other neighbors throw their beer cans out onto this same grass. From the brand, I assume, it's always the same guy. I can always tell when the golf course down the road is busy, because Coors Light cans are also strewn around. Maybe, it's about getting rid of evidence. Open liquor and so forth.

Anyway, it's just about different and conflicting belief systems.

I was completeing my 2 mile daily hike and nearing my driveway when a car passed and tossed a lit cigarrett, may have been aimed at me it came so close. Justice served though, a cop pulled him over just down the road. I called dispatch and told them I had the evidence if they needed it for a littering ticket.

There's a .05c deposit on all bottles & cans here. Plenty of them are pitched out the window, but they do disappear with the roadside picker. It's an inconvenience for those that consume a lot of it, but the deposit works as far as roadside trash, at least some of it. What little bottles we use just go into the recycling.

When I was a kid, my two brothers and my dad and I would often go picking bottles in the ditch next to the highway when coming home from a fishing trip. Generated a fair amount of cash considering that we were just kids!

What I don't get about some litter bugs, is that the effort they take to throw out trash, exceeds the effort it takes to throw it away properly in the first place.

A few years a go a worker threw trash in front of our gate twice. Pretty sure the same guy stopped is vehicle, walked a good distance into the woods and tossed another bag of trash. That pile in the woods is still there. My guess is that this guy was working on a house that was being built since the trash throwing started and ended real quick. Anyway, there had to have been a dumpster at the house being built so why not use it? He spent quite a bit of time driving back to us to dump the trash. At least the second time, he left it by the gate so all I had to do was take it to the dump.

We have a trash collection center in town which is right behind one grocery store and very near a second one. If you live in the area you pretty much have to get food from those two stores which makes dropping off your trash very easy...

More than a few years ago, I noticed that trash had been dumped on the land next to ours. Pretty sure I know who did it but I did not see them. The thing is, they drove a tractor 5-10 minutes to the spot where the trash was dumped. If they had just taken the trash to the collection center it would have taken them less time. We are not charged to visit the collection center and at the time they did not have a sticker to get in. They would take trash from anyone. That had to stop since a large number of people from neighboring counties were using our collection centers.

Some people pend more time being lazy than working.

Later,
Dan

I spoke with my Dad yesterday. Despite the bitter cold, he and his GF had been down by Lake Ontario collecting beer cans. As he says, to supplement his Old Age pension.

Yes, I think it's much more civically minded when drinking and driving to throw your empty bottles and cans out the window on somebody's lawn, where they will see it, pick it up and collect the 5 cents, rather than have it sit as unsightly roadside trash on some deserted stretch of highway. :D
