My battery is right in front of the radiator, and I have a great deal of corrosion in places. I also hate the accessability of the battery, as the grill is spring loaded and is a hassle to deal with. So I was thinking about moving the battery to sit on the roll bar crossmember just behind the seat. I could then have easy access plus keep the battery away from the radiator. I would need to get a longer positive cable, no problem, but is there anything I should be aware of in this endeavor, that I may have overlooked?

The corrosion is probably from the original JD battery, they are/where known to leak like crazy and cause many problems. I suggest you clean and paint the area well, then deal with the battery if it's still the original one.

The battery in my JD 4300 sits just ahead of the oil cooler which is in front of the radiator. Mounting the battery as far forward from the oil cooler as possible helps. Also, if they need venting, put the battery strip in the holes that has the drop-down hose that gets the gases away from that area.
My replacement battery is ventless, and sealed with no plugs. Trust they know what they are doing for me. :)

But to cut down on corrosion on a battery, I tie a copper penny to the positive post. That copper will eat away and reduce the travelling of ions toward the negative post, which is what causes the corrosion build-up.
Years ago, with the lead batteries, it was easy to just bury a penny in the lead (Pb). Not anymore. :)

I have a replacement battery in there now, but the access is really poor on this model. Was hoping to make it easier to access.

Yup! I'll post pictures on here when I actually do it here in about a month. I believe it will be a real improvement!
