Oil & Fuel A quick 5 gallon fuel container rant

It really must be something to make a product that everyone hates but has to use anyway.

Time for a new invention. A 5 gallon jug that has a rechargeable 18V battery pack and a small pump built on the side of the can with a 5' hose.

I guess the chance of sparks or battery melt-down would prolly make it impossible.

Ok to close this out I took some pics this weekend. Ventless gas can 101 I guess. Once you get it up..all you have to do is balance it and wait, and wait, and wait.

Mine works just fine - although there's a funny 1/4" hole behind the handle I don't remember being there when I bought it.. Go figure, my drill must have slipped one day

I hate to spoil the inventive spirit but they have a small pump that runs off of d cell batteries. it has a straight piece of pipe to put in the container then a corrugated piece of pipe on the output.

Builder sorry I just noticed your post. I have not seen one of those in a while. I will look and see what I can find. In the meantime what I saw them used for was to put kerosene in kerosene stoves without spilling. You might look in that area


I just looked on google for battery operated kerosene pump. http://www.safetycentral.com/batopkersipp.html that link came up plus there was one showing ace hardware as selling them and several other links with the same product it looks like

Like I said before my bet is an add on fuel pump the kind that fits in line. At least that is what I used to use when I had my 65 it was way too much trouble to lift cans to the top of that thing. Those pumps are not too expensive. I just put aligator clips on it and attached it to the battery I had one hose that fit in the can and another hose that fit in the tank. Worked well

they are nothing more than a spinning wheel with blades on it. they will not draw a suction (meaning you would have to prime it some how)

or submerse it like it is in the parts washer

why cant we source the little vent cap that was in the old version and just sell them as an "add on" for $1....

When working in the petroleum industry, we used a small, universal application, high output automotive fuel pump to transfer kerosene used for crude oil sampling in the field; those things worked great!
I'm thinking of mounting one on my TC33DA;
Have the discharge hose permanently plumbed into the fuel tank, simply slip the suction hose on to the pump, drop the other end into the dreaded Blitz can, flip on the toggle switch, VOILA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imersion is fine... all we are doing is filling a tank.. treat it like a bilge pump.

And keep a pinched off end of hose on the pump as a 'dust cap to keep it clean... sounds like a neat idea for a self re-fuel-er.

I just filled my Kubota L3240 5 minutes ago. Remove the fuel cap, place the funnel in the filler tube, turn on the key, take the cap completely off the 5 gallon can, dump it in. The tractor starts beeping as it's close to full, beeping speeds up as it's closer, beeping becomes steady when full. put the cap back on empty can, replace the tractor fuel cap, turn off the key. Go eat a donut

Retired now, but I think we used Carter brand pumps, but a quick search provided me with these,
Performance Electric Fuel Pumps
Performance Electric Fuel Pumps
Both are similar to what we used, simple hookup, long life, and sold for around $50-$75 (depending on which model) back in 1996.
(Tip) - Ours were rigged to a toggle type momentary switch, (when you release the switch, it turns off.)

I would have sworn that someone mentioned using a 12 volt autmotive fuel pump earlier on in this post but I am very magnanimous I wont demand a link to my earlier post to give proper credit to the idea ( Before someone gets upset it is a joke referencing another thread that some of the people on this thread have read )
