A little help here please

My dad had a similar thing to happen at work he was runnin an older case hoe that had the brather on a flexible hose. one day the dipstick erupted and then itd die out dad was abourt to calle the mechanic but then when we were inspecting it the mechanic had put an air filter in and disconnected the hose from the air filter and folded the end shut with a clip after we fixed it we never had anymore trouble again.
