I notice rust on the break so it may have been cracked for some time before the total failure. Shame nobody caught that in time. Reminder to crawl under the machine with a flashlight once in a while.

Wait, he was doing what? "Hitting the Bucket"? Plowing snow?

It sounds like a pretty freak accident. Unless he was trying a high speed drive, then plunge the bucket down.

That tractor could be a great parts tractor. Good engine, loader, tires, wheels, etc.

It’s been warm here in Michigan recently since our hard freeze in January, and the ground is soft instead of frozen like normal.

Winters like this one are tricky because the top few inches of soil will thaw and really hold the water if there is still frost underneath. When you get a wet snow melting on top it can get hard to gauge where the edges are, and very easy to start digging into the dirt.

Since it looks like the first picture is next to the road and his bucket is dug in. My guess is that he did this while bucking snow with down pressure on the cutting edge while trying get the icy slush off his driveway.

The image looks like the tractor has been moved.. full snow pack in the first pic, not in the others (grass underneath and not driveway). No oil spill on the first pic.
Some abuse that was beyond normal use, but hope insurance (maybe dealer financing handled that) was available. Would be a good wintertime project.

It looks like he had a load of sand in the bucket and was sanding the road/drive when it let go. As stated above, some of the crack is older....too bad it wasn't spotted earlier.

The fresh break in the casting will show rust very quick (couple hours) if sitting out in the wet weather. Maybe had set there for days before the dealer took pics to post in the ad. Just a thought.
Being that the dealer has this ad to get rid of it, I would not be surprised if Deere hasn't replaced it under warranty (have known them to do that even tho clearly abuse) and now the dealer cleaning up his lot.
