A friend of mines father uses a 78 986 for haying. He told me that it was not engaging sometimes while in low gear and hot. And not all the time. Just wondering what kind of system it is. Any help would be appreciated. I need to find him a manual.

That wouldn't be a clutch problem but a Torque amplifier problem. Does the little red light on the dash blink when this happens?
The problem might just be a filter and oil change or the small pump but I don't think it's the clutch. The clutch often gets changed when the TA is being done as you are there!
