Hi guys. Newbie. I'm in the process of buying a John Deere. My first. I've owned vintage simplicity in the past and I'm ready to make the leap. I've been offered a 98 gt275 with low use for $600. It has a 48" deck. Has a cracked hood but is otherwise in great shape. Dealer serviced. Is this a fair deal? Thanks for any advice.

Did you say $600? If a cracked hood is the only problem I would jump at that. I have never used a gt275 but have read many good reviews on it.

I've got a 96 GT275....Its been a really good lawnmower. I've taken really good care of it,changing fluid and filters regularly,keeping it cleaned,etc. About 4 years ago,I had a tree fall onto my storage building and a limb ruined the top hood. There are a few sellers of these hoods (new) on ebay. I believe I paid 150+ shipping. I also just replaced the voltage regulator as the dash light was flickering and it eventually wouldnt hold a charge. I narrowed it down to this from a shop manual.It has been the only problem I've had with it......My JD275 is now 15 years old (estimate around 3- 400 hours)and still works and looks like new.....should last me until I cant mo no mo
