I look at it as the dealerships have to price their service enough to make a profit or they cannot stay in business. No gov't subsidy that I know of either.
And I like that they stay in business so I don't have more than 15 miles to drive to get parts and service.
And a place for the local mechanics to go to get OEM parts.
There is no free lunch.
But I too avoid making trips to the dealer when a mechanic is needed, as much as possible. Thanks to TBN for the help that is available here.
