I posted this initially on the General Owner/Operating, perhaps it belongs here.

Recently purchased a '84 JD 650 w/snowblower and I've got a few questions for those familiar with this unit.

1. I need an owners/service manual. Any suggestions?

If I had a manual I wouldn't need to ask the next questions-

2. I have very little brake and it appears like it is adjusted all the way. Am I missing something? It only has 1000 hours so I would hope it doesn't need a complete brake job.

3. There is a valve under the seat. What is that for? It appears to be stuck.

4. Do the turn key to left for glow plug position?

5. There is a toggle switch on the dash with a turtle and i believe a fuel symbol. What is this for?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the 650 but my 850 turns left for the glow plug.

I bought my manual from JD but check ebay, I got my parts and service manuals for much less there.

Use the JD parts pages it gives you exploded views on all componets you can get a good idea of what is inside of the brakes.

Hi I also have a 650. I have the snow blower. Its not hitched up, I swapped the mower deck for this. The key switch, if I remember, you hold it to the left for glow plug. The valve down under the seat if you are referring to this, has a knob and controls the three point hitch speed up and down motion. I would keep spraying a penetrating oil on the threads for a while and see if that helps you out. The toggle switch on the dash, you pull up on it and push it up till it locks in. This is for your front electric pto to run your blower. It controls on and off of the front pto. my 650 has almost as much hours as yours does, my brakes are doing the same thing. The covers to the brakes are in back of your tires over the rear axle to get at the brake shoes. the shoes probably need to be replaced, Im not sure if you can take these to a brake shop to get them re-lined. That might save you some money. Sleepy owl.:)

3. There is a valve under the seat. What is that for? It appears to be stuck. The one under the front of the seat (hydraulic stop valve )is used to lock off the 3 point, it is suggested to leave it all the way out or open.

The small lever type valve under the seat on the left side is to control rockshaft speed-of-drop.

4. Do the turn key to left for glow plug position? YES

I've got a 1981 650 with 1254 hours, and a #67 FEL, located in Iowa.
